Senate Concurrent Resolution 630

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BROOKHAVEN ACADEMY LADY COUGARS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH BARRY GRAY FOR THEIR EXCELLENT SEASON AND FOR THEIR STATE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Girls Basketball Team has completed a very impressive 1998-1999 season with a 41-1 overall record, culminating in their tournament victory in the State AA Championship game; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars had an exceptional tournament year, including the following victories: Rebul Invitational Tournament, District 4AA Championship, South Mississippi AA Championship and State AA Championship, including the Quarterfinal of the Overall Tournament victory; and

WHEREAS, the team was very ably coached by Barry Gray and Assistant Coach Penny Mitchell, who fine tuned the players natural skills and instilled a championship team attitude among the players; and

WHEREAS, the varsity girls team roster is as follows: Anna Gatlin, Shea Howard, Allison Lofton, Katie Newman, Sarah Guice, Amy Smith, Leah Rogers, Kristi Moak, Lindsay Altman, Cassie Hamilton, Meredith Hodges, Lindsey Phillips, Alana Oster and Laura Rogers; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this fine group of student athletes, who have brought great spirit and pride to their school, community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars Girls Basketball Team and Coach Barry Gray for their excellent 1998-1999 season and for winning the State Class AA Championship, and wish them much success in their future athletic, academic and career endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Barry Gray, Headmaster John Gray and Administrator Andrew Redd on behalf of the team, and that copies be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
